- who knows where captain picard would have been without guinan? not only was her guidance and advice something like sacred word to picard, her mysterious background as a member of the long-lived el-aurian race gave her access to information and intuition no human could have hoped for. as a species, el-aurians are known as listeners, and as the enterprise’s bartender, guinan is a model example. guinan does more than simply listen to the problems of her friends and members of the crew, though: she always knows exactly what to say to set them on the right path. although a character like guinan could have been trapped in the “wise sage” trope, she also has a lot of fun, joining members of the crew on the holodeck and also previously hanging around nineteenth-century san francisco. no stranger to tragedy, guinan holds a heavy grudge against the borg and q, but she is also open to forming new opinions about her enemies. at the same time, she isn’t afraid of using a gun to accomplish things—or a fork. she’s smart, funny, compassionate, brave, and the best example of the complex and fascinating minor characters star trek is rife with.

I always wonder what’s going through Zuko’s head in this moment.
Because you can tell in the moment he pauses before he speaks that he is having a lot of thoughts.
Like:
‘The fuck is he on? Is he being deprived of oxygen at this high altitude or just high? Is the moon a metaphor for something? Is he being poetic? Because that seemed awfully literal.
